REMOVE THE NOISE.

Jason Oliva was born in 1970. He is a full time painter living and working in New York City. His works largely concentrate on the ‘singular’ – an animal, a flower, a building, an object – where the noise of a detailed background or other subject matter has been removed.

‘I like to leave room for the viewer and prefer not to attach images to a higher power, place or time. I prefer the painting to be about one ‘thing’. its a restraint, or constraint or a rule, let’s say, and within those boundaries, the image takes on a different or greater meaning.

Jason makes a number of his paintings available for purchase. He also commissions paintings and does portraits.

A UNIQUE OFFERING: WORKS ON PAPER

Alongside his works on canvas, Jason has re-created a large number of his paintings as limited edition works on paper, all of which are individually hand-painted on Arches paper, then numbered and signed by Jason.

For a long time people would ask me for prints of my original works on canvas. I wanted to offer multiple, reproduced images of these works but not necessarily as a print, mainly because I felt that an image reproduced using machine technology would perhaps lack the individual and personal character found within the original work on canvas. But then I met James Rosenquist who opened my eyes to Arches Paper and I thought, ‘Why not hand paint each one? I love doing the work and everyone deserves an original painting.’

THE CONCEPT

Many of the works on paper are directly based on an already sold Jason Oliva work on canvas. As a means of remaining true to the original, Jason not only hand paints each work on paper, but he also uses the same paints used in the original work on canvas — in order to capture the same vibrancy in color.

Each work on paper is as close to the original as possible, and because each work is hand painted, not one work is identical. With this in mind, owning a limited edition work on paper is very similar in spirit to owning an original work on canvas.

Each work on paper begins as a full-color edition. A growing number of editions are also available as variations of the original color edition. For example, Buddha is available in color, black and white and grey tone. While the Statue of Liberty is available in red, white, blue, green, yellow and three shades of grey.
